Butcher Boy's Cafe - Sherrill's Ford NC

Overall Review: B+
Home cooking, southern style favorites and more are on the menu at this restaurant. A simple, self seating restaurant, has a breakfast and lunch buffet on the weekends, and simple, southern favorites on the menu.
Excellent food, the service is usually very good, with several servers checking in on the tables, bringing drinks, food, whatnot.
The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a simple southern family restaurant. It's sometimes crowded, especially during weekend buffet hours, but it's more cozy than crowded. Kids under 3 eat free from the buffet, and they have smaller portioned kids items on the menu.
So, if you're looking for a simple weekend breakfast, check it out. Just beware, tons of UNC memorabilia on the walls, you're definitely entering Tar Heel Turf, but try not to hold that against them...we don't!

On the Border - Northlake

Overall Review: A
Once again, craving for Mexican hit and I found another On the Border Restaurant for lunch. I was tentative at first, having had such a great experience at the Concord location. Luckily, everything was once again excellent. Our server, knowledgable about the menu and fun to talk with. The manager was very visible, walking around, talking to tables. I mentioned it was our second OTB stop in a week, and she laughed, saying "well, that's a good thing!" We didn't have any issues, but overheard the table behind us being rather unreasonable, even so, the staff and management were professional and helpful and were able to please even the pickiest of customers. We overheard the conversation, the server said that if the customer didn't like hot things, she probably wouldn't like a specific menu item. The customer ordered it anyway, and low and behold, it was too hot for her. The server apologized (although, she had nothing to be sorry for) and quickly brought her something different. The manager even came out and apologized that the item was too hot for the customer. They should be proud of the level of customer service!

Midtown Sundries - Denver

Overall review: B+
This Midtown, relatively new to Denver was extraordinarily clean, making us quite happy! They have a great selection of menu items for kids, far beyond just chicken fingers and fries. The servers were great and able to suggest special menu items.
Definitely more kid friendly for lunch, it is, after all, a sports bar. Older kids will like watching the huge TV's, while younger ones might not be as amused. You may want to check with them before hand, especially on a weekend night, before taking your kids. They sometimes have live music, or get a bit rowdy during sporting events. Possible date night location?

Westlake Family Restaurant - Denver

Overall Review: A
Westlake is a small, family owned country style restaurant. Only open 6 am - 2 pm, they serve breakfast all day. Exactly what you'd expect to find on a southern menu, omelets, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, with a few specials, like Italian and turkey or chicken sausage. Their lunch menu has veggie plates, burgers, hot dogs, fries as well as seafood, Greek and Italian specialties, from homemade lasagna to gyros.
The atmosphere is casual at best, everyone is welcoming and the servers all know your name. For little ones, they have special "Mickey Mouse" Pancakes as well other kid friendly items.
If you're in the Denver area and looking for a great home style place for breakfast or lunch, check them out.

On the Border - Concord

Overall Review: A+
This restaurant was excellent. The food was amazing, and the service was exceptional. We went around 1:30 for a late lunch. There were serveral other tables when we arrived. We were seated immediately and our server soon arrived wtih fresh warm tortilla chips and salsa. He answered every question, even suggested different options. Our entire meal was delicious. They have a menu that any adult would love, as well as all the favorites for kids. Ever server we saw had a smile on his or her face and we overheard other servers being just as helpful as ours.
If you're looking for a great Tex-Mex restaurant in the Concord area, check out On the Border!

Hendricks Motorsports Museum and Team Shops

Today we visited the Hendricks Motor Sports Museum and Team Shops. Located just minutes from Charlotte Motor Speedway, the museum is free for all visitors. Inside the museum, you can see different race cars, trophies as well as purchase team merchandise. Older children would like seeing the cars and trophies, while younger ones may get bored easily. The merchandise ranged in price, from a $4.99 stuffed Jeff Gordon bear, to higher priced team jackets and other memorabilia. You can also visit the team shops. One shop is for the 24 and 48 teams of Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, and the other shop is for the 5 and 88 teams of Mark Martin and Dale Earhardt Jr. When you walk into the 24/48 shop, you see two more cars, as well as a wall full of championship trophies and another section of race trophies. You can then walk around a mock track and look into the actual team shop to see the employees working on the cars. Older children might find this exciting, toddlers would be bored. The 5/88 shop was much the same, this time, you looked through a wall of windows into the shop. I wonder if the employees feel like animals at the zoo...being watched all the time.
If you're a Hendrick's fan, or even a NASCAR fan, it's worth checking out. There is a lot of history in the small museum. Great free outing for older kids!

The Sports Page - Mooresville

Overall Grade: D-
We arrived around 1PM, hoping for a quick lunch. Walked in, and the hostess told us we could sit anywhere and pointed to the dining room. We had our choice of several DIRTY tables. We finally chose the less disgusing one and waited....and waited. Eventually, someone came by and cleaned the table, acting like we were the stupid ones for sitting there. After waiting some more, a different server came by and gave us menus and got our drink orders. A third server brought us our drinks and then left. We waited around 10 minutes to even put in our lunch order. This is the point where I stop to mention that we were the ONLY table in the restaurant at this time and we'd seen at least 4 servers by now. The food was good, on the slightly higher side of prices, but still good. It is the only saving grace for this restaurant, keeping it from an F rating.
We got our food, and didn't see another server for at least half an hour. Finally, my husband went in search of someone to get our check. She came back, gave us our check, and vanished again. One would think that if you give a table their check, you'd hurry back to collect it because they are apparently ready to leave. After going hunting for a server to give the check to, we finally asked to speak with a manager. We paid our check, and waited some more. The manager never showed. I think waiting 10 minutes for a manager to come to your table when you are one of the now two tables in the restaurant is generous enough.
So...final opinon...keep driving. There are plenty of better quality and service restaurants two minutes further on hwy 150. We won't be returning to the Mooresville Sports Page.
